Silly old SG Foodie (so swaku!) always thought a lobster meal will be exorbitantly priced until DH took her to Lobsterman SS2 where they serve USA Maine Lobster at relatively reasonable pricing and you can choose to have your lobster prepared and cooked in various ways too! SG foodie got so excited that she made two consecutive visits to Lobsterman in the span of 10 days!
The first visit saw SG foodie trying out a set meal for two and topping up slightly to get a larger lobster. SG foodie and DH decided to have the lobster prepared in two different ways, the tail in sashimi and the body fried with garlic. The set meal comes with one lobster, baked escargots (without shell), a cream of mushroom soup, a cream-based seafood pasta, fruits and coffee and tea. The escargots were done nicely, buttery but not too much and baked with some mushrooms too. The soup was just average but then again that's not the main dish. The pasta was rather too creamy but not too bad and thankfully shared.
The main attraction is of course the lobster. The sashimi was fresh (how can it not be when the live lobster was taken from the over-populated lobster tank and shown to us before it went into the kitchen?!) and succulent! Highly recommend this if you don't mind raw fish. Sashimi lobster doesn't have a fishy taste but the flesh is sweet and firm. Lobster fried in garlic and some cereal was just as delicious! Use you hands and the tools provided to dig the flesh out of the claws and shells.
SG foodie's second visit, she decided this time just the lobsters without any other distractions. SO two lobsters were ordered! One lobster was baked with thermidor sauce while the second lobster's tail was made into sashimi and the body was cooked with rice porridge. The Lobster Thermidor is a must-try! Cheese, cream and some mushroom baked on top of the lobster and presented with a small corn-on-the-cob and side serving of coleslaw. The sashimi this time didn't quite hit the spot and the flesh wasn't as firm as SG foodie's first try somehow. BUT the lobster porridge more than made up for it - the congee is smooth and tasty with a hint of lobster flavour as you fish the claws and body out to munch on.
Now people there are some things that you don't do on your first dates and pizza, crabs and lobsters belong to couples, friends and families who are already very comfortable with each other where you dig in with your hands and get messy. Lobsterman is well equipped with sinks, soap and paper towels to clean up with after the meal.
