Mum's Place (Halal) - Damansara Perdana

Deciding to explore Damansara Perdana for food options one day, SG foodie and family visited Mum's Place, a peranakan food restaurant. Having read other bloggers' review about this place, SG foodie figured it should be worth a try.

The restaurant is fashioned like a peranakan house with plentiful wooden carvings and (what SG foodie assumed) are old doors and decors saved from peranakan-era homes. Photos of well-known personalities who have visited the restaurant are displayed on one side of the restaurant (to prove how popular the restaurant is I guess). The funny signs stuck all over the restaurant provided comic relief and SG foodie particularly liked the ones that said: "There are two items on the menu today - take it or leave it" and "Bang head here - for stress relief".

Not knowing what exactly to order, SG foodie asked the waiter for some recommendations. So the orders for Cencaru Fish, Beef with Ginger and Spring Onion, Taufu with Minced Chicken and spinach were put in. The rice (not too big portion allowing you to enjoy the dishes) were served in their own Mum's Place plate.

Mum's Place
The Cencaru Fish, fried mackerels served with petai and chilli paste, is really spicy!! Now SG foodie is a spicy food lover and must have chilli-padi with almost everything but this Cencaru fish is really hot and spicy! SG foodie wouldn't recommend this dish for families with children or those who are not into food that are overly-burning. A caucasian family next to SG foodie was enjoying some Assam fish without any issue so perhaps go with the Assam fish which is supposedly another favourite. But the beef dish was done really well, tender and tasty with just a hint of ginger and the taufu with minced meat  gives just the right sauce as a nice accompaniment to rice. The spinach has some lime added into it (if SG foodie's tastebud is correct) that gives it that slight tangy taste. And all this at a very reasonable price of about RM20 per person!

Would SG foodie return? Yes when SG foodie craves nonya food again!
