MUST TRY: SINGAPORE: House @Dempsey

One of SG foodie's favourite place for food is at Dempsey Hill... it's near to where SG foodie enjoyed her childhood and the fact that it's slightly inaccessible means that it's not overly-crowded. There are plenty of food choices at Dempsey that caters to all ages and purpose. Mum wishing to entertain their kids can proceed to Gogo Bambini while adults with a penchant for some local Indian dishes can choose from Samy's Restaurant or Muthu's Curry or couples wishing to hold hands and exchange sweet-nothings can visit the numerous cafes sprinkled around the area.

On one of SG foodie's recent trip to Dempsey, she returned 'home' to House where she had enjoyed the Spa Esprit services and tea at House before. This visit though was for dinner with an old friend. The restrooms were indicated by drawings, a black rooster for the Gents and a black cat for the Ladies... talk about suggestive! ;p

We started dinner with a drinks order of the tiffin punch set that came in a four-tiered tiffin. The punch contained grapefruit, lychee and vodka and was slurpilicious! We were so glad we ordered the four-tiered tiffin rather than the individual one as one was certainly not enough!
Our dinner order included two different soups - a tomato soup and a cream-based soup -, a crunchy beef salad and a pizza. Since this was SG foodie's 1st visit to House for dinner, she didn't quite know what to expect but was pleasantly surprised by the wonderful and simple food. Both the soups were equally yummy with just the right consistency and amount of ingredients for a soup.

The crunchy beef salad was a delight! The crunchy beef was cooked to perfection and really with a nice light crunch that won't hurt your teeth and gave a good texture difference to the greens in the salad. The salad dressing was light, not too oily or sour either. When the pizza arrived, we were glad we didn't order more as it was quite a good-sized pizza to be shared between two diners. The margherita pizza crust was fantastic - not too thin that it came off as a biscuit nor too thick that it was closer to being a bread and simply laid out with tomatoes, basil and thickly-sliced mozzarella cheese. A pizza that hits the spot with its simplicity and freshness.

We polished off every bit of food and drinks placed before us then proceeded to order coffee, tea and dessert of strawberry shortcake with vanilla sauce. SG foodie was a little disappointed with dessert as it seemed to have tasted better on her last visit but then again that was at tea time when it was just desserts and tea unspoiled by other flavours.
