Ok SG foodie is a bit S-L-O-W here as TWG has been in Singapore for a while now and their tea salons are likely more than 2 years old already. SG foodie has simply gone into the tea boutique to quickly pick up some tea gifts but have not sat down for a cup of tea till recently... SG foodie understands that the TWG macaroons are a popular favourite but SG foodie, not a fan of meringue, find macaroons too sweet so have not tried TWG macaroons and can't comment on this.
TWG is often confused with Twinings of London, a 300 years old brand of packaged teas from the tea-drinking English. TWG is a Singaporean company and apparently stands for "The Wellness Group" that obviously does not have such a long history but it is truly transforming the way Singaporean think about tea!
So it was one fine afternoon when SG foodie met some friends for some late lunch and tea at TWG at ION Orchard just the other day. The feel and atmosphere of TWG tea salon is sophisticated charm especially since TWG is known for employing eye candies to serve all its customers, be it in the tea salons or boutiques. And this day, SG foodie had a chance to sit and enjoy some eye candy while sipping her tea and enjoying some scones with clotted cream and TWG jam while her friends had the lunch set menu that changes every week.
As it was a weekday afternoon, the tea salon was not too crowded and it was a perfect day for catching up with friends and not be rushed to give up your seats for other customers which SG foodie understands happen on busier days at TWG, usually on holidays and weekends.
SG foodie is a lover of Earl Grey tea and there is a variety of Earl Grey teas to choose from at TWG, on top of the hundreds of other tea in the TWG selections. The tea selections at TWG is mind-boggling and SG foodie wasn't quite sure what to choose and asked for an Earl Grey tea with a more citrusy taste and left it to the server to assist accordingly. I believe the server said this was the French Earl Grey though SG foodie could have remembered wrongly.
SG foodie was a little disappointed with the tea though as she felt the citrus and bergamot flavour of the tea wasn't strong enough especially when the tea was drank on its own without milk and sugar, which is how SG foodie prefers her tea so that she can enjoy the true flavours and fragrances of the drink. The scones were pretty good though, with a light crust and the clotted cream was not too heavy though the TWG jam didn't quite add much to the combination with its too-subtle flavour.
Of course SG foodie should give its other food and tea selections a try but at the moment, TWG tea salon is in SG foodie's opinion, a place to be seen in rather than for its food.Meanwhile SG foodie saw a TWG tea salon coming up at Pavilion KL so friends in KL can enjoy the eye candy gazing and charming atmosphere of TWG tea.
