RECOMMENDED: Western food @Kuan Yew Coffeeshop SS3, Kelana Jaya
You see SG foodie has had too much of the good food and so the doctor has recommended that she try to lose some weight by reducing carbohydrates for health reasons (GULP!). But avoiding carbs doesn't mean cutting out all the good food right?! SG foodie did some internet search to find out about going on a low-carb diet (not a completely NO carb diet) and it seems to be manageable on top of the yoga classes that SG foodie has started on about 3 months ago. Thankfully DH has also been asked by the doctor to go on the same weight-loss diet and this makes homemade meals easier to manage although K1 and K2 remain on a normal carb-protein diet. (*Btw SG foodie and DH have lost about 5kg each since! YAY!*)
In view of this change in eating habit, DH brought SG foodie to Kuan Yew Coffeeshop in SS3 Kelana Jaya where western food is served by an ex-hotel chef. SG foodie was here about 6 months ago but the queue was tremendous and she went to the coffeeshop behind to eat instead but wouldn't recommend that place. This time, SG foodie was prepared to queue especially since the visit was made on a weekend though late at 8:30pm.
The order was: 1) Black Pepper Steak (RM17), 2) Sirloin Steak (RM16) and 3) 2x Lamb Chop (RM11). SG foodie and DH were talking to a couple who lives in the area and found out that the Chicken Chop (RM7.50) is the signature dish and the Fish & Chips at RM7.50 is also a good bet. The prices are really affordable but of course it's in a coffeeshop and not a restaurant.
K1 and K2 had the steaks that were nicely done with delicious sauces while DH and SG foodie had lamb chops that wasn't gamey at all and served with a lemony mint sauce that SG foodie couldn't get enough of! The meats are all served with some coleslaw and fries but these are really periphery. The meats were all cooked perfectly albeit slowly. Thankfully while the family waited (45-60 minutes) for the meats to be served, SG foodie also ordered a serving of deliciously fried loh-she-fun (mee-tai-bak in Singapore) to be shared. The shop that sells fried noodles has a wide range of dishes to choose from and SG foodie would recommend it too.
