Worth a try: Fresca Mexican - The Gardens, KL

SG foodie enjoys a good Mexican meal and was introduced to Mexican food since she was a teenager. Liking Mexican food, she has been frequenting Margarita's in Singapore, both the Clementi branch and the Dempsey branch. SG foodie's favourite dish from Margarita's is the Chimichanga, a deep-fried beef-stuffed tortilla served with salsa, avocado and sour cream. Singapore used to have Chicco's and Charlie's too that served decent Mexican food. Since the move to KL, SG foodie hasn't been able to find any Mexican restaurant here and have relied on Chilli's and TGIF for its Tex-Mex cuisine that just somehow doesn't quite hit the spot.

Avocado juice, Enchiladas Verdes, Sopes
As SG foodie visits The Garden quite often, she chanced upon Fresca and was delighted to find the Mexican restaurant (apparently opened a year ago) there. K1 and K2 also wanted to try out a proper Tacos and so it was off to Fresca one day for lunch.

Corn chips and cheesy tomato sauce
SG foodie decided on the Fresca Selection (meant for 2 pax) that comes with a sope (appetiser), an entree (Enchiladas) and a main course (Tacos), with an additional order of corn chips with a cheesy-tomato sauce. The sope was a mini-pizza-style tortilla with chicken served with a slightly spicy cold sauce. The sauce was good but the sope tortilla texture was biscuit-hard and the chicken rather dry. The Enchiladas Verdes (chicken enchiladas) was the winner of the day - cheesy enough to appeal with a great sauce and soft wrap. They were so good, SG foodie placed an additional order for this.

Beef Tacos
The Tacos were rather disappointing though, the Taco shells were not crunchy enough although the minced beef was tasty but not even a sprinkling of cheese makes it rather plain. The corn chips with cheesy tomato sauce was a small serving of corn chips comparatively for its price of RM19 and the sauce wasn't great but maybe SG foodie should have ordered the original Mexican salsa that she has always liked but the corn chips were still a pathetically small serving for the price. As K1 and K2 were with SG foodie, she didn't go for the spicy items on the menu such as the Fried Jalapenos and Cheese.

Fresca Trio Dessert
SG foodie decided to finish off the meal with a Fresca Trio dessert which consists of a warm chocolate fondant (lava cake), a scoop of nougat ice-cream and a caramelised banana with brandy and raisins. The banana was the saving grace of the dessert really, the fondant and ice-cream were nothing spectacular unfortunately. The Avocado juice was fantastic though. Expect to spend about RM40-50 per person here, pretty reasonable for casual Mexican food.

But because SG foodie had tried other Mexican restaurants in Singapore, Fresca doesn't quite meet the standards set. Moreover if compared to Tex-Mex places available in KL, where a group of friends can choose between Western and Tex-Mex dishes that are served in generous sizes for sharing, SG foodie isn't sure Fresca is in a position to compete if its dishes are so small for almost the same pricing at those places.
