I've been in KL for a year now but still have this fear of driving to KL city centre on my own. The traffic jams and the "booby-trapped" roads (unclear road signages, potholes in road, etc) makes the journey an adventure on its own. I tend to go around the Petaling Jaya (PJ) areas (slightly out of KL, if you don't already know) unless DH is the driver since he seems to have an internal built-in GPS system. And we do road trips to various states which is something we don't get to do when we were in Singapore. SO to cut the long story short (if you are following this blog), I've decided to post about my food adventures and explorations here. Of course there are plenty of food blogs out there by Malaysians on Malaysian food but hey... this is a Singaporean tastebud talking... And SG foodie is not very picky about food as long as it's food but always on a diet of great tasting food! Umm and ya I don't use alot of pictures so ya read on at your own peril!
I thought I should start with this place that we've been visiting when we were mere tourists in KL and continue to visit now that we live here.
Many years ago, we used to go the New Ipoh Chicken Rice at Jalan Gasing and the one near Sunway Giza which are both unfortunately located in areas plagued by the famous KL traffic jams so we stopped going as often. Now it's open a branch in Damansara Jaya, SS22 and while the office hours parking is atrocious, in the evening, car park is quite plentiful.
This chicken rice shop offers a similar-to-Ipoh soft white chicken (both normal and kampung chicken available) and the famous bean sprouts. These are drenched with the salty-sweet soy sauce that goes so well with the oily chicken rice, chicken porridge or chicken soup hor fun that is so smooth, it slides down your throat. Try the meat balls that has a unique twang and bounce to it. The Thai-style chicken feet, tangy sourish and sweet at the same time just whets the appetite!
For Singaporeans like me who grew up with the Hainanese-style chicken rice, the New Ipoh chicken rice is simply heavenly especially when you are looking for comfort foods that reminds you of home (warms the heart and tummy!)
